After a ship accident, the Baltimore bridge collapses.
A cargo ship smashed a major bridge in the US city of Baltimore, causing it to collapse.
Traffic on the Francis Scott Key Bridge is being rerouted, according to the Maryland Transportation Authority, which acknowledged a “incident” there.
Although it withheld any information, the US Coast Guard also confirmed the crash.
Social media footage saw the bridge falling when the ship impacted it.
According to media reports, the ship struck the bridge at roughly 1.30 in the morning local time, caught fire, and sank while cars were crossing the span.
Numerous victims were seen in the Patapsco River by local accounts after the disaster.
There were no other details at this time.
Baltimore is surrounded by Maryland’s Interstate 695, which crosses the 1.6-mile bridge.
It is reputed to be the third-longest continuous truss bridge in the world and the longest in Baltimore.
